A Backyard wedding to remember.
I’ve been thinking about this wedding for Erica and Jim for some time and feel ready to make some comments. It was an extraordinary event and should not be rushed into. Erica was amazing in the lead up to their backyard wedding with such thoughtful ideas and planning. It’s kind of rare in today’s world to see such planning go into an event. I guess it stands to reason because of the job she chose that she would have such a strong prefrontal lobe and ability to think ahead. It was just wonderful in so many ways!
We started out in the family home to get our getting ready pictures. There were a few shots down in the basement before they did their first look. The first look took place on the steps at the Northwest side of the home. It turned out to be important because of the incredible light on that side.
We took a few photos but not many before the service. I think the couple just wanted to get the first look out of the way and settle their nerves before the guests arrived. It made sense to me anyway. The service was held in the backyard overlooking a gorgeous pond by their home. The groom’s father was a pilot and arranged for a flyby with a friend trailing a really neat banner congratulating the couple.
After the service, we took a few family photos around the grounds as the guests enjoyed their cocktail hour.
The tent set up for the backyard wedding.
Introductions were wonderful and the DJ handled things perfectly. I wish I could recall his name but he really did an amazing job. At about sunset, the couple went out for a few evening shots. You can see the storm rolling in though the rain never landed on us.
One of the most amazing things I remember is as the night pressed on, how kind and interested everyone seemed to be in the well-being of the couple. That translated over to many people coming and talking to me with an interest in the photos. It was really neat to see the love the families and friends shared for the well-being of the bride and groom. It was a lot of fun and a wonderful backyard wedding!
As I was packing up my gear and walking to my car, a group of friends were standing out enjoying the evening air. I asked them if they wanted a really neat shot and they all agreed to participate. I lined them up facing the West and took an absolutely gorgeous picture in the moonlight. It’s one of my favorites of that entire wedding. They were such great customers with such a strong appreciation for good photos. It was a rewarding experience that I’ll never forget and I hope you enjoy these photos!
