Looking back to one of our favorite weddings at Cherry Creek Golf Club…
Every winter we take some time to look back through some weddings and try to pick some special ones for blog posts. Derek and Natasha were married at Cherry Creek Golf Club in Shelby township. They had the reception at the same location. This was a super special wedding for us. We first met Natasha some time ago at a friend’s wedding that we happened to be shooting. She got to talking with us and decided to hire us for hers.
The day began at her mom’s place getting ready. There was a beautiful feeling in the air as her sister and mother were getting ready. The emotion in the room was beautiful. I truly fell in love with this family that day! Being Spartan fans, we have a lot to share. We had a lot of laughs and good times. Derek had a big surprise in store for Natasha later in the day. She was totally unaware that he was planning on having Sparty show up at the reception.
Heading for Cherry Creek…
Next we left the house and headed for Cherry Creek. We got just a couple of pictures of the club before hurrying around back to capture the couple’s first look, sometimes known as the first reveal. Natasha walked down the back stairs and out onto the grassy area, which is perfect for taking photos behind the club. You could feel the excitement growing with the bridal party as they looked on and enjoyed the moment. It was a very special part of the day!
After a little bit of time spent with the bridal party, everyone made their way to the dressing rooms to hide out while the guests were seated for the service. The service took place on the back patio. It’s south facing and the light is gorgeous. The shade of the trees helps keep the grass cool during certain times of the day, but let’s in the right amount of light for some gorgeous pictures. A good friend that knew them well conducted the service and it was very meaningful. Once the service concluded, we took a few family shots and the guests headed for cocktails and some hors d’oeuvres.
The Party in the main ballroom…
Sparty made his entrance! It was a fabulous moment and the excitement in the room was over the top. Natasha danced with the MSU mascot and he posed for pictures with his fans. What a great night! Often the cake is cut before dinner so that it can be portioned out in a timely fashion after the dinner. That is what occurred here. I wish I knew who made the cake, it was a beautiful design and from what I heard, it tasted fantastic!
After a scrumptious dinner the couple took to the dance floor. The party was on and the fun ramped up. There are some beautiful night shots from this wedding that I want to spend a moment on. Night shots can be very tricky to do. The lighting is very fussy and getting a good balance between the foreground and the background is key to making a good picture in this type of lighting condition. However, when done well, night shots can be a very dramatic and beautiful end to the day.
We wish Natasha and Derrick all the best! I’m sure we will see them again at a wedding in the future. I hope you enjoy the pictures!
We can’t wait for our next Cherry Creek wedding!
