Grace & Edwin’s Wedding at Grace Lutheran Church Canton & Meeting House Grand Ballroom Plymouth

Documenting the gorgeous wedding day of Grace and Edwin was an absolute honor for our studio. Having previously completed photography work for this wonderful family, it was a spectacular treat to return to capture Grace’s big day. Grace is a complete sweetheart, and we are so thrilled that she found such an incredible partner in Edwin to share her life journey.

We began the morning capturing getting-ready details at Grace’s late grandfather’s house. Grace shared an incredibly deep bond with her grandfather, and the family tragically lost him just a month prior to the wedding day. While his absence was deeply felt, it was profoundly moving to witness the family unite in his home to celebrate this beautiful milestone.

Grace works as a professional hospice nurse, and her innate level of compassion is absolutely remarkable. You could truly feel that warmth radiating through the room as she interacted with her family. Even on her own wedding day, she remained completely focused on ensuring everyone else’s needs were met before her own.

In a beautiful tribute, Grace asked her beloved aunts to serve as her bridesmaids. Incredibly, these were the exact same ladies who stood as bridesmaids in her own mother’s wedding decades ago. Creating that living, intergenerational link made the morning prep unforgettable. One of my favorite frames from the day is a touching portrait of the aunts holding a vintage photograph of their mother before the ceremony.

After wrapping up portraits on the backyard lawn, the bridal party prepared to leave for the church. In another classic touch, Grace’s brother drove a vintage Ford to the venue with the stunning bride riding elegantly in the back seat.

We met up with Edwin and his groomsmen at the church ahead of the service to lock in a few sharp, classic guy portraits. Before the ceremony officially commenced, the couple shared a private “first touch” and a quiet moment of prayer around a back corner of the sanctuary. Our studio has had the privilege of working at this Canton church for many years, and we always value our fantastic relationship with their staff.

The ceremony itself was beautifully personal and filled with meaning. In a deeply reverent moment, Grace and Edwin participated in a traditional foot-washing ceremony. Rooted firmly in their faith, this sacred feature serves as a profound symbol of humility, honor, and lifelong devotion as each took turns washing the other’s feet.

Following the ceremony, we spent about 20 minutes executing a highly organized set of formal family photos. As a quick planning tip for couples mapping out their own wedding day, we generally allocate roughly two minutes per portrait grouping. By sticking to a premeditated list of 10 to 15 key groupings, you can easily wrap up your formal photos in a stress-free 20 to 30 minutes. Before leaving the church, we utilized the stunning architectural lines of the sanctuary to capture some breathtaking, dramatic backlit couples’ portraits.

Once the ceremony concluded, the newlyweds hopped into their getaway car and zipped off to downtown Plymouth for their reception at The Meeting House Grand Ballroom. This iconic, historic banquet room features magnificent high ceilings and glittering chandeliers.

The venue holds a fascinating history: it was originally constructed by the industrious family who owned the legendary Mayflower Hotel. They built this grand ballroom specifically to host one of their own family weddings, knowing full well that other local couples would cherish the opportunity to utilize the gorgeous space for decades to come.

While guests mingled and enjoyed a lively cocktail hour inside, we slipped out onto the lawns of Kellogg Park for some romantic sunset portraits. When it was time for their grand introductions, the room erupted into a thunderous round of applause. The pure excitement in the room for this couple was electric.

Following a splendid dinner, Grace and Edwin took to the dance floor for an unforgettable first dance. The dramatic creative backlighting and unique artistic perspectives we captured during their dance are absolutely gorgeous.

The emotional energy continued into the parent dances. As Grace danced with her father and Edwin shared a dance with his mother, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. We captured an incredibly raw, beautiful candid shot of Grace and her parents watching Edwin and his mother dance—it is a memory that truly defines the power of emotional wedding photography.

Later in the evening, we stepped away from the party to create some dramatic, signature outdoor night shots. We used the vibrant streetlights around downtown Plymouth and the ambient glow of Kellogg Park to wrap up an absolute dream of a wedding gallery.
