Talia & Adam’s Fall Wedding at Canterbury Village in Lake Orion MI

A gorgeous fall wedding at Canterbury Village in Lake Orion MI

This was such a fun wedding for Talia and Adam at Canterbury Castle in Lake Orion, Michigan. I remember initially getting the call from Talia’s mother inquiring about our availability for their date. We were open and incredibly excited to be heading back to Canterbury Village for a crisp fall wedding!

We started our day in the chapel’s dressing room with the bride and her bridesmaids. Once the couple was ready, they opted for a “first look” on the front steps of the chapel.

They decided to meet up before the ceremony so they could complete portraits early and fully enjoy their cocktail hour later in the evening. I always highly recommend this strategy for autumn weddings, as the natural daylight fades quickly and is often completely gone by the time a later service wraps up.

We spent about half an hour exploring the gorgeous grounds with the couple and their bridal party. Most of our focus was on romantic couples’ portraits, and the resulting images turned out beautifully. About thirty minutes before the ceremony, we wrapped up outdoor photos and tucked the couple safely inside out of sight as guests began taking their seats.

The service was conducted by a dear friend of the family and was handled beautifully, lasting about 20 minutes. They hired an amazing harpist to play during the ceremony, and her music was absolutely angelic. I made sure to grab her business card, and you can check out her link directly on our website under our recommended vendors section.

Following the ceremony, we wrapped up formal family portraits and snuck away for a few unique shots on the carousel in the building next door.

From there, everyone made their way over to the ballroom for cocktails. This celebration took place during the pandemic era, which actually inspired a truly iconic shot: we captured the couple’s first dance from the balcony while all their guests watched from down below. We actually gifted a copy of this specific image to Canterbury for their venue portfolio, and it has since become a huge inspiration for other couples wanting to utilize the ground floor layout for their first dance!

After their first dance, the newlyweds were introduced into the main ballroom to a thunderous round of applause! Touching toasts were shared by family and friends, followed by a delicious meal. Once dinner wrapped up, the dance floor officially opened, and everyone had a fantastic time.

We weren’t scheduled to stay late into the evening, which highlights the true beauty of our flexible photography packages. You can select the exact amount of coverage time you need for your timeline, and we are always happy to accommodate you. We captured a truly spectacular collection of memories within the time they selected.
