Dodge #4 State Park Wedding & Dinner under the pavilion.
Preparation for the Event
This couple came to us through our good friend Denise Albright, who was the wedding officiant at this celebration. We’ve known Denise for many years and have enjoyed working with her on many weddings.
Sheryl & Jeff contacted us for their wedding photography sometime last winter. They were planning a two-day event, one of which would take place at Dodge #4 State Park in Waterford and then the reception would take place at Canterbury Castle in Lake Orion. This segment was day one.
The Service at Dodge #4 State Park overlooking the Lake
They purchased a micro wedding package for day one, 3 hours coverage. The thinking was to cover the service, some photos of family, and then pictures around the lake with just a few shots of details around the party at the end. Our micro wedding packages are set up for smaller events where the coverage is not for all day events. It’s ideal for more conservative weddings, just as this one was. We gave them a break, price wise, on this micro package based on their purchase of a larger package for the bigger event coming up in the fall. We will be posting that event when we have it ready.
When the bride arrived in her vehicle, she parked very close to the pavilion and made her grand entrance. All eyes were on her as she walked up the gentle slope towards the service. Things came off very well! There was one chuckle when a gust of wind came up and pushed over the draped backdrop behind the couple. Of course, we are in photojournalism mode when these sort of things happen, and in this case it turned out they had a good sense of humor about it and the pictures ended up in their collection. Sometimes people don’t want to remember those moments but as a photographer you simply document and edit later.
Family Photos
After the service concluded we gathered for some family photos near the bluff overlooking the lake. We probably spent about 10 or 15 minutes covering some important family photos that were on the couples must have list before we took a walk around the park. The lakefront is beautiful! The couple was willing to take a walk down by the water and out on the docks for some really pretty shots.
The Party At the Pavilion
This was a small intimate micro wedding with a few key guests in attendance. They catered a nice meal for those in attendance. Dinner was served and everyone enjoyed catching up on things with each other. As sunset approached, we walked back down by the water for some absolutely gorgeous photos. Some days are good for sunset photos and others are not. This was one that stood out as particularly gorgeous.
Check out Day 2 at this link. They through a great party at Canterbury Castle in Lake Orion MI.
We hope you enjoy this wedding post and we will be looking forward to day two when they have a larger reception out at Canterbury Village in Lake Orion. We will keep you posted! If you would like us to photograph your wedding, please give us a call at 734-453-4321 and thank you.
