Wedding Reception in The Bentley Banquet Center Wyandotte

This wedding was a pretty unique situation. We were asked to photograph the after dinner portion of the reception only. A bit on the unusual side but that’s how this one went down. We arrived a bit early to capture some details in the room while the couple finished their dinner.  After dinner they took to the dance floor.

Our instructions were to cover the party in a photo journalistic style and not to intervene in the party. It was reminiscent of a wedding we shot some years ago where our client asked us to photograph her celebration without speaking to them.  It is an interesting approach and one that we can do when asked to.

After dinner the bride & groom started off with a dance with their respective parents saving their formal dance for the end of the night after everyone had left the ballroom. Once the two formal dances had taken place the dance floor was opened up and the party was on!

A funny moment and split second reflexes

My good friend Dwayne who was doing the music that night gave me the heads up that our bride was looking for her toss bouquet. I got myself in position on the side of the dance floor when suddenly, from out of nowhere, the bouquet was flying through the air and cuffed some poor girl in the side of the face. Somebody else, half realizing what was happening, scooped the bouquet up off the floor.  It was sheer reflex to have gotten the photo of the bouquet mid-flight! When things settled down I looked at my camera and realized what I had captured and doubled over laughing.

Dancing and big fun at The Bentley

The party raged on for a couple of hours and I concentrated on action shots around the dance floor. Everyone was having a fabulous time! As the party was winding down and the hall was about to close up. Everyone was ushered outside to prepare for the sparkler exit. With the hall empty the couple took to the dance floor by themselves in a quiet private moment and final dance.

When their dance was over, the couple sailed down through The Sparkler Tunnel and disappeared off into the night.  A few stragglers wandered back into the empty hall and picked up the pieces as Dwayne and I packed up our gear and called it a night.

What a night and one that I will have plenty of stories to tell over the years. We hope you enjoy this collection of reception photos from a very lively party.
